Studio Potter

Job Overview:
As a studio potter, you will be responsible for creating handmade pottery pieces using various techniques such as throwing, hand-building, and glazing. You will work as part of a team in a studio environment, producing unique and high-quality ceramic pieces for sale, exhibition, or commissioned projects.

Responsibilities:
1. Pottery Production:
– Create pottery pieces using techniques such as wheel throwing, slab building,
coiling, and sculpting.
– Design and develop new pottery forms, shapes, and surface decorations.

2. Glazing and Firing:
– Prepare glazes and apply them to pottery pieces.
– Load and unload kilns, and monitor firing processes to achieve desired results.
– Experiment with different firing techniques and temperatures to achieve desired surface finishes.

3. Studio Maintenance:
– Maintain a clean and organized studio workspace.
– Keep pottery equipment, tools, and materials in good working condition.

4. Professional Development:
– Stay updated on current trends, techniques in pottery and ceramics.
– Attend workshops, classes, and conferences to enhance skills and knowledge.
Network with other artists, potters, and professionals in the ceramics community.

Qualifications:

– Proven experience as a studio potter or ceramic artist.
– Proficiency in pottery techniques such as throwing, hand-building, glazing, and firing.
– Strong artistic vision and creativity with the ability to develop original pottery
designs.
– Attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality craftsmanship.
– Bachelor’s degree in fine arts, ceramics, or a related field (preferred but not
required)
